GENERAL LOCATION:   At the edge of the city of Auburn, near the American River

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

DESCRIPTION:  A very pleasant loop hike --- traversing downhill toward the American River, then turning upward to the treasured gem of walkers and joggers --- the Auburn Canal!! --- a 2 1/4 mile length which will lead us back to our cars.  Along this loop, you will enjoy, not only the historic canal, but wonderful views of the American River.  Afterwards, if hikers are interested, we will stop for coffee or tea at a nearby Starbucks!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

TRAVEL TIME/DISTANCE:  Travel time is 30 minutes and distance is approximately 14 miles.  Suggested donation to drivers is $3.

 

 

Return time to Lincoln will depend on time spent at Starbucks!   Time spent hiking will be approximately 2 1/4 hours.

      FACILITIES AVAILABLE:  Flush toilets at Railhead Park --- near trailhead

 

 

 

 

 

 

      PREPARATION FOR HIKE:   Hiking boots, water, and snack (we will be back at LH at lunchtime).   Recommend trekking poles, if you have them for uphill section and also narrow sections of trail along the canal.

      RISKS:  Narrow sections of trail along canal require caution.
